Essex
Custom Carpentry
Project Overview
The owners of this 1920s Essex colonial wanted to convert an underused living room into a dedicated library and reading room. The walls were bare, the existing shelving was freestanding and mismatched, and the beautiful bay window had no seating. They envisioned built-ins that looked like they had always been part of the house.
Our carpenters designed floor-to-ceiling bookshelves flanking the fireplace, complete with adjustable shelves, integrated cabinet bases, and period-appropriate crown molding that ties into the existing trim throughout the home. A custom window seat with lift-up storage fits perfectly in the bay window alcove, creating the reading nook the homeowners dreamed of.
Every piece was built in our shop, finished with a hand-brushed lacquer, and installed with minimal disruption. The final result feels original to the home and adds character, function, and value.
